FREE TEMPLATE to help you lead your law firm's conversation with clients on sustainability

It's clear that sustainability is becoming a crucial component of many law firms' strategies and operations. However, despite the growing interest, many firms are still in the early stages of fully integrating sustainability into their practices.

To drive initiatives in the right direction and build momentum, law firms should engage clients in meaningful discussions about sustainability. These conversations not only demonstrate your commitment to clients' values but also create opportunities for deeper collaboration, innovative legal solutions, and long-term relationships.

By being seen to be proactive to understand and support your clients' sustainability initiatives you will:

  • Help both you and them navigate regulatory challenges, mitigate risks, and drive positive environmental and social impact.

  • Equip your practice to lead the way in making sustainability a core element of your client relationships.

  • Strengthen your relationship with them to position your firm as a valuable long term partner in their journey toward greater sustainability.

The long term value from this type of exercise with clients results from asking the right questions, exploring them with an open mind, meaningful interpretation of the feedback (where independent evaluation helps), then in developing sound plans to respond to it. Followed by implementation over time of the prioritised initiatives that flow from it.

Your people need to believe in it too and these clients are the best source of validation. Innovation, AI adoption and Training will be part of that discussion too – all explored during this session too.

Some questions you ultimately want to be able to answer – but there’s a route to having that discussion in the right way - where independent, objective client listening with a good understanding of technology, AI and ESG options helps:

  • How can we, as your legal partner, support your sustainability goals?

  • Are there specific areas where you need legal advice or services related to sustainability?

  • Are there opportunities for us to collaborate on sustainability initiatives or projects?

  • How are you addressing potential legal risks associated with your sustainability efforts?

  • Are there legal considerations in your stakeholder engagement processes that you would like us to review?
